When it comes to medspa treatments, laser facials are high on the list to help achieve flawless skin. Sure our favorite products do a great job at maintaining results, but it’s the actual treatments that do the bulk of the work.

Laser facials treat hyperpigmentation, and prevent acne while reducing the appearance of scars. And they just so happen to be the go-to treatment for slowing down the subtle signs of aging.

We sat down with Josie Holmes, SKINNEY Medspa Aesthetic Trainer, to discuss the many benefits of laser facials and how this popular treatment has become the first step to achieving glass skin.

3H: What does a laser facial entail?

JH: Laser facials entail cleansing the skin and treating it with specific lasers to target concerns. It’s a quick treatment that can conveniently be done on your lunch break.

3H: What does this treatment target?

JH: Our laser facial uses Intense Pulse Light (IPL) to target sun damage, hyperpigmentation, redness, and overall uneven skin tone.

3H: Can you explain how this treatment feels?

JH: We numb the skin before the treatment so that the laser feels like a gentle snap on the skin—almost like a flick. It’s quite tolerable and virtually pain-free.

3H: Which type of laser(s) do you use at SKINNEY MedSpa?

JH: At SKINNEY MedSpa, we work with Alma Lasers and utilize their IPL laser to target uneven skin tone, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation.

3H: Typically, how long would the downtime be?

JH: Visually, there is usually zero downtime involved with your treatment. However, if there is a lot of pigmentation present and you are looking for a more aggressive treatment, you may see a slight flaking of the skin as well as a little bit of redness. These side effects last only 2-3 days. We do ask that you avoid the sun a week prior and 2 weeks post-treatment.

3H: What other treatment(s) would you combine with laser for glass skin?

JH: To achieve glass skin, I would pair the IPL with a 60-minute Hydrafacial. Hydrafacial helps to exfoliate and extract the skin while providing hydration and antioxidant protection. Clients leave this service with glowy, bouncy, glass-like skin.

3H: How many sessions would you recommend for maximum results?

JH: We typically recommend 3-4 treatments spaced apart by 4 weeks for the best results.

3H: Who would you recommend this treatment to?

JH: This treatment is ideal for clients who suffer from sun damage or excessive redness. It targets the darker hyperpigmented skin, vascular lesions, and overall redness of the skin.

3H: Which skin tones would have the best with this treatment?

JH: This treatment is best suited for fair to light skin tones—it’s not recommended for anyone with a skin tone deeper than olive.
